The Heliópolis Symphonic Orchestra, Baccarelli Institute’s signature group, provides orchestra practice and knowledge of symphonic repertoire for advanced students of the institution. Under the artistic direction of its chief conductor maestro Isaac Karabtchevsky, the orchestra, recognized internationally for its artistic quality, is patroned by the Indian maestro Zubin Mehta, who visited the institution in 2005 and was enchanted by the power of music as a tool for social transformation. Up until today, it is the only orchestra in South America that has had the opportunity—and pleasure—of being conducted by Mehta.
The versatility of the group allows the orchestra to move easily through the worlds of concert music and popular music, maintaining a high standard of excellence in the execution of the works. The students have already performed under the direction of maestros like Zubin Mehta, Peter Gülke, Yutaka Sado, accompanied by Julian Rachlin, Erik Schumann, Domenico Nordio, Paula Almerares, Leonard Elschenbroich, Arnaldo Cohen, Jean-Louis Steuerman, Antonio Meneses, Ricardo Castro, Paula Almerares and famous artists like Ivete Sangalo, Milton Nascimento, João Bosco, Luiz Melodia, Lenine, Paula Lima, Toquinho, Fafá de Belém, Ivans Lins, etc. The group has already performed on important stages, like Sala São Paulo, Municipal Theaters of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the Gasteig in Germany and the Muziekgebouw in Holland, in addition to having participated in events like the Beethoven Festival (Bonn, Germany) and Rock in Rio, with Mike Patton.
